How Long Will A Battery-Powered Chainsaw Last?

In the early days, chainsaws were heavy-duty machines that were only powered by gas. Today, there are variations and we have chainsaws that are lightweight, easy to handle, and most are battery-powered.

So how long will a battery-powered chainsaw last? A battery-powered chainsaw’s run-time depends a lot on the voltage, watt, and ampere the chainsaw possesses. Some of the cordless chainsaws in the market today can make up to 70 cuts before the battery gets drained out.

Different brands and models of a chainsaw come with varying offers of warranty and run time. This article explores some battery-powered chainsaw brands with respect to their warranty[1] and run-time.

The Stihl Battery-Powered Chainsaw

Stihl is one of the most appreciated chainsaws manufactures. They deliver reliable, consistent, and powerful battery-powered chainsaws, thanks to their 36 bolts lithium-ion technology. Their chainsaws are also quieter than the gasoline-powered chainsaws.

The Stihl chainsaw has its battery built to store charge between 40% to 60%. When not in use, it can last a month. Even a flat battery can be stored for several months without being damaged by exhaustive charging.

For example, the Stihl Ap 300 battery is one of the conventional models of Stihl battery designs. This chainsaw comes with a 36-volt lithium-ion, 6.0Ah battery. The Stihl App 300 claims a 45 minutes run time and can last you three years as a homeowner and two years as a professional user.

An example of Echo’s battery-powered chainsaw is the CS- 58V4AH. Its cutting performance is 35- 40cc and it comes with a 4Ah battery, which offers extended run-time. The quick charger ensures the 4Ah battery is boosted to 100% in just 60 minutes.

Other examples are the Echo HT-58V2Ah and PLB-58B2AH. The HT-58V2AH is light-weight, weighing 4.3kg and has a bar of 610mm. It also offers a run-time of 90 minutes. While the PLB-58V2AH is another light-weight machine that provides a run time of 30 minutes.

The Black + Decker Battery-Powered Chainsaw

For example, the Black + decker Lcs1240 40-volt cordless chainsaw. This chainsaw has a 40 volts MAX  Lithium-Ion Battery and has a run time of 45 minutes when fully charged.

Another example of Black + Decker battery-powered chainsaw is the LCS1020 20V MAX cordless chainsaw. It comes with a 20 Volt MAX Lithium battery for long run-time and stays charged for about 5 times longer.

Makita Battery-Powered Chainsaw

Makita has a 1-year limited warranty for all their products but offers a 3-year warranty for their batteries and chargers (amongst others). They provide extended battery run-time for most of their chainsaws which makes them one of the favourites.

Their Makita XCU03PT1 18V X2 (36V) LXT does not come with a charger or batteries. But once you have purchased your full kit, you can enjoy their extended battery life feature. The dual 18V LXT Lithium-Ion batteries will give you a chance to enjoy prolonged battery life.

The same is true about the Makita XCU02Z 18V X2 (36V) LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 12″, which offers the same battery life with little differences in their cutting performance.

Husqvarna Battery-Powered Chainsaw

Husqvarna offers a 2-year warranty for their battery-powered chainsaw for household and personal use. For commercial and professional use, they offer a 1-year warranty.

Husqvarna makes some of the best battery-powered chainsaws and like some other renowned brands, their chainsaws have pretty impressive run-time. Some examples of Husqvarna’s battery-powered chainsaws are;

The Husqvarna 14 Inch 120i Cordless Battery-Powered Chainsaw and Husqvarna 535iXP 14-inch 36 Volt Cordless Chainsaw. The 14-inch 120i is a 40-Volt Cordless Battery-Powered chainsaw built for consumers who wish to get some light jobs done. It comes with a control keypad equipped with savETM mode with which users can choose between maximum power and maximum run-time.

The 535iXP 14-inch 36-Volt Cordless Chainsaw is another light-weight battery-powered chainsaw built to perform some light-duty cutting. It is ideal for homeowners as well as woodcarvers. The 535iXP comes with a savETM mode as well and has a run-time of about 20 minutes.

The GreenWorks Battery-Powered Chainsaw

Greenworks offers a 4-year limited battery and tool warranty for individual use and a 90-days warranty for commercial use. Greenworks’ battery-powered chainsaws have some of the best run-time any user can testify to.

An example of Greenworks’ battery-powered chainsaws is the Greenworks 20312 G-MAX 40v, which is one of Greenworks’ best battery-powered chainsaws. It is a 16-inch cordless chainsaw with a 4Ah battery and charge and has a run time of 45 minutes. Another example is the Greenworks 24V Cordless 10″ battery-powered chainsaw. Like the 20312 G-MAX 40v chainsaw, this one also has a run-time of 45 minutes.

Note:  The longevity of your chainsaw battery is determined by the brand of your chainsaw. Today, there are many different brands of chainsaws with different models in the market and each has different run-time. Some brands are known to have battery-powered chainsaws that last longer.

For instance, Greenworks 16-Inch 40V Cordless Chainsaw provides about 75 cuts per charge, which is quite impressive. There is also the Dewalt DCCS670x1 Flexvolt 60v MAX which features a Max 60V lithium-ion battery capable of providing 70 cuts per charge.

You can also prolong the battery of your chainsaw and reduce repair costs by adopting a habit of correct and constant maintenance.

Conclusion

Battery-powered chainsaws were made to give users smoother experiences while performing tasks. One of their many perks is not having to drag around heavy machines, or electric cords while working. However, these chainsaws are more enjoyable when they last for a reasonable amount of time.

There is no specific amount of time that battery-powered chainsaws last because battery capacity varies. The run-time of a 60V battery surely will not be the same as that of a 20V battery. That being said, if you need a battery-powered chainsaw that will last for a longer amount of time, you will have to purchase a chainsaw that comes with a powerful battery.
